Will Yassir Be The First Algerian Tech Giant?
Yassir is the first ‘innovative’ ride sharing app in Algeria, started in 2017.
The start:
YA Technologies, the team behind the company, launched the App by:
– YATTOU Mehdi (Universtity professor at USTHB, Bab Ezzouar)
– BAHA Mestapha (Investor).
– DELLI Amel (USTHB graduate).
– TAYBI Nour Eddine (Former Intel engineer and former owner of a US based startup).
The idea was first started by YATTOU Mehdi and TAYBI Nour Eddine, former colleges at the National Polytechnic School in Algeria, who just wanted to start something together!
“We wanted to prove that creating a startup can have a good social and economic impact in Algeria, despite of the difficulties and the obstacles”
The app was developed in 2017 by a team of 4 Algerians (2 programmers and 2 designers) some of them did not graduate yet.
Yassir now:
4 years after launching, Yassir is now the bigget ride-hailing app in the Maghreb Region, with 2M users, 20k drivers in more than 24 cities (in Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, France and Canada).
The company is now active in more businesses like: e-commerce, delivery and workers’ transport…
The company was recently funded by some famous investors from the Silicon Valley, in addition to the Y Combinator accelerator program (amount not announced), all thanks to the networking and the connections by TAYBI Nour Eddine, managing the company from Palo Alto, California.
Goals and ambitions:
The company is aiming to become the first multi-use “Supper App” in the French-speaking African market, and also take part in payments and mobile banking.
Will Yassir be the first Algerian startup with continental, or even international impact?
